Training in Olympic Style Taekwondo was started in Jamaica in a private capacity before 1975, and resumed in 1981, through the efforts of 8th degree black belt and Vietnam war veteran Grand Master Mu Ung Yi who was a Korean national. He arrived in Kingston to take control of the local Taekwondo training. Since then, many black belt students have been promoted and seven Taekwondo gymnasiums established on the island.

The Jamaica Taekwondo Federation (JTF) was founded in 1991 with Grand Master Yi as the first President and it is the only Taekwondo organization recognized by the Jamaica Olympic Association, the local affiliating branch of the International Olympic Council. He relinquished that position in 1996 and soon afterwards left the island. The next President elected under the constitution of the JTF was Master Christopher Chok (1996-2014) under whose watch Jamaica was able to participate in several Taekwondo World championships and had an athlete compete in the Olympic Games. In 2014, Master Chok passed on the presidential Baton to Conrad Jenkins, Whom was a 4th degree Black Belt and an International Referee who later officiated in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games under our discipline. In 2019, Master Chok was re-elected for president which shortly After came with a lot of positive changes especially transitioning to our newly adapted name ‘World Korean Taekwondo Jamaica’ (formerly Jamaica Taekwondo Jamaica)[/vc_column_text]
